Food4Kids Guelph Back To School Fundraiser!

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to our generous customers we raised $4721.22 for Food4Kids Guelph!

The Market Fresh Team took a tour of Food4Kids Guelph and helped pack food bags for the first pack of the year! Watch it here! Food4Kids Guelph offers weekend food to children who, for a multitude of reasons, may be food insecure.

How It Works:

Hundreds of children in Guelph struggle through each weekend without food. When kids leave school for the weekend, they should not have to worry about how they will be fed. Food4Kids Guelph provides packages of healthy food for kids aged 4 -14 years, with limited or no access to food each weekend. Packages of healthy shelf stable foods are prepared by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend. 

The school submits a confidential student registration form. Food4Kids Guelph volunteers fill plain bags with 14 - 16 healthy items and deliver to schools each Friday morning. At the school, the food package is placed into the student’s own backpack helping to shield the child from any stigma. Every child in the home receives a food package. When schools are closed they send grocery cards to the families.

Each food pack costs approximately $15.00 for the weekend. Food4Kids Guelph does not receive any government funding. Programs are 100% funded by community donors and one-time grants. The program is run almost entirely by volunteers keeping overhead expenses to an absolute minimum.
